Luke

Home of the NewPage Luke Paper Mill

Papermaking defines Luke, Maryland. Named after the founder of the Piedmont Pulp and Paper Company (established in 1888), the town today primarily consists of the NewPage Luke facility. It's not surprising that this mill helped pioneer the use of wood pulp in papermaking with the abundance of woodlands nearby. Beautiful, wild natural resources surround the area, yet residents also benefit from living within three hours of the major metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Washington and Pittsburgh.

Those who enjoy outdoor activities appreciate the wealth of resources available in the vicinity of Luke. Two of Maryland's largest state forests are close by, in addition to Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp Resort. You can enjoy golfing, alpine skiing, boating, Olympic-level whitewater sports, mountain-biking or trout stream fishing, practically from your own backyard. You'll also appreciate the many cultural, historical, residential and educational opportunities in towns such as Frostburg and Cumberland, less than 30 miles from Luke.
